The Apartment Plus programme is an impulse for the development of innovative architectural and technological solutions on the Polish residential market. It is also a unique opportunity for students of Polish universities to present new ideas and to cooperate in the realization of large-scale investments. An opportunity for this is the competition “the House of Tomorrow. A model of affordable buildings, launched by the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology, BGK Nieruchomości S.A. and the BGK Foundation.

The goal of the competition is to present the vision of an affordable, socially valuable housing construction in Poland. The preliminary assumptions of the competition were presented in June this year by Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin, Minister of Science and Higher Education. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the role of involving the academic community in the implementation of the Apartment Plus programme. In his view, both the government housing programme and the competition for university students represent an excellent example of synergy between the world of science and business.

All students of the first, second and third level from technical colleges universities and art schools are invited to participate. Projects can be prepared individually or by teams, with no more than three members in each team.

– I am delighted that, by co-organizing and participating in the competition, the academic community, including the Warsaw Faculty of Architecture, can expand its participation in the debate on the development of the idea of affordable buildings in Poland. Students will be given an opportunity to submit their own and hopefully revolutionary spatial solutions. It is extremely important that ideas from their projects can be used to design specific investments within the Apartment Plus programme. In this way we create conditions for new ideas to emerge at Polish universities and to translate them into innovative activities and to use them in social life and in the economy –

said Prof. Jan Słyk, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology.

The projects submitted for the competition are expected to expand one of the four guiding themes which concern: (i) the development of model urban planning, (ii) the search for innovative solutions in the functional, usable and spatial aspects of housing, (iii) the development of sustainable and affordable technologies and (iv) ) the use of new ideas resulting from the digitization of the surroundings.

In September, we resolved the competition for model houses for the Apartment Plus programme. The participants in this competition were expected to present specific design and technological solutions. Today, in a competition addressed to students, we look forward to bold visions that can significantly enrich Polish architectural and urban thinking, and enable better use of modern construction technologies and digital tools. Thanks to this, housing construction in Poland may be both more affordable and better suited to the current civilizational challenges –

–said Grzegorz Muszyński, member of the executive board of BGK Nieruchomości S.A.

All prizes and awards in the competition amount to 70 thousand PLN. The deadline for submission is December 14, and the public announcement of the winners will take place on December 20th.
